For more than a day now parts of London have had no Internet.
It has now been confirmed that this is a direct result of an attempt to steal the cable.

Sky Broadband & Talk outage in South London | 12 December 2013 Update: 12 December, 14.30: Openreach engineers have been working to repair the network as a matter of urgency, and have now restored service in Dartford, Mitcham, Battersea, Wimbledon, Hampstead and Beulah Hill.
There is currently a Sky Broadband and Sky Talk outage in parts of London, after thieves attempted to steal copper and damaged fibres in the process that form part of Openreachs network at a site in West London (Great West Road) on 10 December. We understand up to 37,000 Sky customers have been affected in the following areas:
Stamford Hill
Dartford
Ewell
Mitcham
Battersea
Chiswick
Wimbledon
Hampstead
Beulah Hill

Other than Easynet, I do not know which other ISPs have been directly affected by these events, but I understand that the damage is quite severe.
