Incredibly bizarre problem with my Sky SR101 Router

Bit of a long story here:

Back in January i woke up one morning and my White SR101 Router's WiFi had disabled itself (no WiFi light). This was the first issue i had with the router in almost a year of being with Sky Broadband Unlimited. I fired up my PC (connected via ethernet) and i could see i still had a wired connection that was working fine. So as you would do, i attempted to connect to my router via 192.168.0.1 to see what was up. However, it would not connect to the router login page and simply would not resolve the address as if it was not there. I then hard reset the router and i saw the WiFi light come back on and i was then able to connect to the router and re-did all my WiFi settings and the like.

Two weeks goes by, i then wake up and the same thing has happened again, no WiFi light, and unable to connect to the router login page. I performed the same procedure and hard reset the router but this time the WiFi light did not come back on and i still could not connect to the router login. I then pulled the power from the router and plugged it back in but this did not change the situation. I then opened a CMD prompt and typed ipconfig /all and could see my default gateway was showing properly as 192.168.0.1, i just could not connect to it (address not found) in my (Firefox) browser. I do have a Gigabit switch so i tried plugging my PC ethernet directly into the router itself instead of the switch but that made no difference.

By then i had run out of ideas and rang Sky, who insisted i connect to the router login page to be able to diagnose the issue. After multiple attempts at explaining the problem Sky finally twigged on to the fact that i was unable to connect to the router login page and finally suggested sending me a replacement router. I was very lucky as i was almost into my 12 month cover and another week would have cost me a pretty penny to pay for the router replacement. The new router (same white SR101 model) turns up and upon setting it up everything worked and i was back in business & i connected to the router login to add my WiFi settings and the like.

Another couple of weeks pass, and i wake up to... you guessed it, no WiFi light on my virtually new replacement router. I felt like punching something but i resisted and go through the whole same procedure as before, minus ringing Sky as i was now out of my 12 month cover! Sure enough i have no luck and although (just like before) i have my wired PC ethernet connection i have no WiFi and no ability to connect to the router login page. 'CMD ipconfig /all' again confirms my gateway at 192.168.0.1. I try different browsers this time, on different machines and they are all the same, as if the address itself does not exist. I have all my gadgets (including the router) plugged into a UPS system which protects me from brownouts and power surges so i don't think the issue is power related.

I was then left with no choice but to buy a TP-LINK Wireless access point which i connected to the ethernet of the router and that, at the very least, got my WiFi back up and running. It's been fine in that configuration for the last few weeks, however not knowing what the issue was / is has gnawed away at me and i was hoping that perhaps someone here might know of what the hell has actually happened to my router and if it would be possible to restore the original function. I noticed a Sky Firmware recovery tool, i have downloaded this but have not attempted to use it yet as i wanted to post here first to see what you guys think i should do.

Thanks
