Ok. So ill try to keep this short, but informative. Me and my father have been with Sky since 2000. I have had Sky Broadband since at least 2005. The first router I had was the D-Link, and it was the best router I had (and the only up until that point). 2 or 3 years later the power supply decided to go caput. Sky sent me a Sagemcom router and the issues started there. Terrible range and reliability. When Sky Hub came out (SR102) I decided to enquire and go with that. Much the same problem, in fact worse in some cases. With the Netgear I never dropped a bar until Sky Hub.
On 9th of April I am having Fibre activated (unlimited). I dont get why Sky had to send me another hub (maybe they just wanted the £6.99 delivery charge which even for delivery is steep). Now I want to know, first just to make known I have had DLM again on my line and am currently getting about 9-10 mb down on wireless and channel 12 which isnt too bad but the connection is unreliable.
I am not asking for a third party router replacement to use, but is it possible to piggy back off a better router, I have recently purchased Asus Zenbook which has the latest Intel AC wireless chip, I would be looking to take advantage of that and a 5ghz band, as well as gigabyte ethernet (would I be able to use that in any case as Sky hub is ancient tech). I would be looking to use wirelesly unless there is a way to extend the phone line port
The top of my budget is £70. I could possibly get a BT Homehub 5 for about £17 off Ebay, but would it work well? I have looked at Asus, D-Link, TP Link, Billion and multiple forums, and cant seem to come to any sort of conclusion just like the guys asking the question. I have nothing in the way of my router which should cause any interference.
I would aprechiate a response as soon as you can, and in this I want to do everything by the law book, hence the piggy backing. Anything pig related (bacon) is good with me. Just not the manure which Sky dishes out.
Regards
Garry
