When I first moved to the UK I was new to the world of ADSL so at the time I didn't react, but today I've learned that my internet connection has been plugged directly into the test socket all this time. Not only that, but I actually do not possess a faceplate at all, there's never been one installed for as long as I've lived here.
What prompted me to learn this was the fact that during the course of 3 years I have lost almost 1 mbps worth of downstream and 320 kbps of upstream and am now browsing at a blistering speed of 2555kbps down / 480kbps up.
I've looked, and there does not appear to be anything attached to the 3rd screw (ring wire) under the top half of the master socket. I've just placed an order for a BT vDSL iPlate ( BT vDSL NTE5 Filtered Faceplate|Interstitial Faceplate ), my question is: Could I expect to see any improvements vs direct plug into the test socket & Sky's microfilters?
My current stats, for my own reference as much as yours:

I know any answers would be purely anecdotal, but I figured I'd throw it out there and see :)
