NowTV Fibre questions

Hello,

Looking at getting NowTV Super Fibre 76mb over Sky Fibre Max mainly due to 12month contract which goes hand in hand with my 12 month Sky Q contract.

Does the NowTV rebadged Q Hub turn Sky Q Mini boxes into WiFi hotspots (same as Sky Q Hub), I have one Mini box with another one to come at a later date.

Is NowTV broadband near identical to Sky Fibre Max product, uses same Sky network back haul etc... Any differences other than the name?

Able to use a third party router/modem on NowTV Fibre, in my case likely a Netgear Nighthawk D7000 or TP Link AC1600/VR600?

Hopefully to get these issues to bed before I order, hopefully this evening.

Router not strong enough

Hi, I've changed my Humax to a newer model, but am unable to link it to the SKY router to get a WIFI signal, which isn't surprising. I've had 4 routers sent me over time because of this problem.
To get it to link I need to move the router to its maximum distance the connecting wire will allow, which is unacceptable as there's wires trailing on the floor. The router is in the conservatory, the TV in the lounge, a distance of app 40ft away, & it wont pick up.
It's been suggested that I use Power Line Adaptors that simply plug into a power source to boost the WIFI, but I've never heard of such things.
I'm not really a newbie, but had to change my details etc to log on???
Any help appreciated.

Netgear DM200 and Edgeouter - Internet fine but phone stops!

Hi all,

I have been lurking around here for a while and have used the guides and tips dotted around to replace my Sky Q Router with a Netgear DM200 (Bridged Mode) and a Ubiquity Edgerouter. I have good strong stable internet after getting my router to issue a DHCP Client identifier (skyuser@skydsl|mypass) but rather strangely whenever I do this my landline telephone stops working.

I have tried adding a filter to the phone socket (came with the DM200) which has had no effect. I am not convinced this is needed anyway as I have a new Openreach Master Socket 5C which I believe is pre-filtered (I don't need an additional filter with the Sky Q router).

Anyone out there got any ideas? There is no way I can live without a landline and if I cant fix this I may have to go back to the Sky Q router full time.... which is sub optimal...

Anyone experiencing this as well?

UPDATE: Couple of reboots have cured it!

Sky q hub causing connection issues

When i connect directly to the Hubs WiFi signal, several apps on my mobile (S9+) just will not connect to the internet (was the same with my S8+ but only for the last month and a half), but if i switch to one of the wifi extender points located around the house, then it works perfectly with all my apps, I have turned off the Sky Broadband shield completely as having it on 18 worked for about 10 minutes, then blocked the apps again :(
It is really annoying now as 1 of the apps affected is the Galaxy Apps store, so no updates until i switch to the extender, although they dont always have a signal.
Any ideas

Upgrade to sky q want F1 keep legacy or get a new package?

I am looking to upgrade to Sky Q (Dimond VIP customer)

Currently I pay £46.50 for the variety package and the HC pack (which also includes free F1).

If if possible I would like either reduce my bill or at least not increase what I am already paying as I feel it’s too much already.

So so do I keep my current legacy package or upgrade/change my package and if so what too and what am I expecting to pay?

thanks

Wifi dropping out

(Asking for my brother). He gets a good strong signal with both his laptop and phone, but suffers intermittent dropouts with both. I had read somewhere about this possibly being caused by a mixed mode setting, but could have been another ISP/router. Anyway I had a look in the Sky Hub setting and 'mode' is greyed out, even if I swap to a manual channel. Could it be simply a case of using a set channel and turning 'auto' off), or is the mixed mode another possible cause?

thanks.

I don't often post anything good about Sky. Their television program content is junk (so is everybody else's) so I don't pay for that. 99% of films that come out are junk so I don't pay Sky for that rubbish. Again not entirely Sky's fault other than they try to foist this rubbish on to me.

Now for the good stuff. Sky's broadband is second to none. I have been with Sky since it's inception. I had British Satellite Broadcasting, with a squarial, until Sky took them over. Sky's ADSL didn't put a foot wrong ever. Sky's fibre broadband has been, at least, as good. I do wish Sky would buy decent routers and let me set up my own router instead of hiding stuff. I know this is "getroundable" but I shouldn't have to. I now have Sky's Talk Shield and whilst I did have a problem at first that was my fault not Sky's. Now I have it set up properly it is fantastic. 100% lock out of all scammers and people who hide their numbers and more to the point I don't have to see that someone has tried to ring me. Oh yeah and the robot has a nice soft voice unlike my BT Callguard.

Sky Q instalation & follow up visit

Just last Sunday afternoon I had Sky Q installed in my bungalow home, main 2tb box is hard wired Ethernet so perfect, the router is in the conservatory which links to the kitchen. The Sky engineer fitted the mini box to the kitchen saying it was the best signal that he could achieve & said as he was leaving that I could hard wire it if I wanted & left, to be honest his helpfulness sucked the kitchen tv was useless & unwatchable.

A call was made to Sky & their escalations team who arranged a further visit the next day Mon 26th, another polite engineer turned up with a colleague who he smiled when introducing him (the second fellow) as an apprentice, they asked of the initial engineer & confirmed the way he left the instal.

They soon set to work placed a booster & hidden Ethernet cable to the kitchen. It was only then that I discovered the second fellow (apprentice) was actually the team manager checking on the instal, he mentioned something about a mesh & showed me readings of 2990 on his machine which he explained was good with the equipment being in a green colour on his screen.

They left, I was happy & called Sky asking the engineers James & Shaun be congratulated on their attitude & helpfulness.

Top marks to Sky :)

BT set to cut prices for one million customers

Quote:

BT is set to slash bills for up to one million customers on Sunday after a ruling last year from Ofcom told the telecoms company to cut bills.

Customers with landline only services will see bills cut by 37 per cent – from £18.99 to £11.99, equaling a saving of £7.00 a month or £84.00 a year.

The changes come after last year’s ruling by Ofcom who said bills from landline only services should be cut as landline-only customers have not received the same value for money as those who buy bundles of landline, broadband and/or pay-TV services.

The changes are expected to mostly benefit the elderly and vulnerable as research from Ofcom revealed that two thirds (66 per cent) of landline-only purchasers are over 65, and three quarters (77 per cent) have never switched provider.

The price cut will come into force on Sunday 01 April and is expected to affect 900,000 BT customers.

The changes will also see line rental and call charges capped by no more than inflation, for three years.

The discount will apply to customers who do not buy broadband from any other provider.

BT has said it has contacted all those affected regarding the changes, and although 700,000 of those who received a letter would not have to do anything around 200,000 will have to confirm they do not have broadband to receive the discount.

Jonathan Oxley, Ofcom’s Competition Group Director, said in a statement: “We had serious concerns about soaring bills for loyal landline customers. This was hurting people who rely on their landline, many of whom are elderly.

“We’re pleased that BT has cut prices, which means these customers get a fairer deal, and they’ll be protected from price rises in the coming years.”

Ofcome has also said that a further 200,000 customers on BT’s ‘Home Phone Saver’ package could also qualify to the reduction in bills.

Customers on the package can choose to stay on their current package, or move to the standard product being discounted, depending on which is the best deal for them.

I have switched my broadband from Sky to BT. Everything works except the wifi hotspot effects, is there any way to configure it or do I have to install separate wifi repeater(s)?

Thanks

SR102 settings

Hi,
I have a SR102R Router on my Non Fibre Internet attached to my Master phone socket using filter as supplied
I have unlimited Broadband package with Sky.
My Internet and Sky work fine at about 4.6Mbps

I have a Western Digital NAS 3TB attached to my router via Ethernet Cable.
I can access this from within my Network the WDMyCloud device is showing connected on my router settings on 192.168.0.57

I have the apps on my iPhone and ipad, and can access all the contents of my drive on these units even when away from home.

I can't access the files from a Laptop PC NOT connected to my Network.

WD Support have been helpful, but are asking me about router settings, and this is why I have come to this forum.

They tell me I must have UPnP enabled and working (which I think it is according to my router settings)

They also say I need to use "Google public DNS".
This has
8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4. for Primary and secondary

How do I set the router so it uses the Google public DNS - it seems as if I can only use: www.dynDNS.org , www.noip.com , or DyNS main page
My Sky hub page looks like this -

Can I set my router to use Google public DNS?

WD Support also say I need to have certain ports open. I am not sure which ports, and how to open them on the SR102

So:
How can I open ports on the SR102?

How can I test if the required ports are open? (Canyouseeme.org rings a bell)

Any help appreciated
Thanks

Can't log into Sky website or email

Hi. I'm having a nightmare trying to get hold of sky with help for this. Since the begining of March, I've been unable to log into the Sky website or get any email from them. I get the message

There's a problem with the account and to contact 03442411280.

When I try to change my password, I enter my surname and secret answer, enter the new password and I then get the message

The was an unexpected error.

And nothing happens.

I've phoned the number but they never answer, been left on for over 40 minutes waiting and 50 minutes the second time. I've messaged them on Twitter, nothing. I've also messaged the Service Support FB page and even though I'm told I'm being passed to someone (obviously by automated message) nobody ever contacts me! I'm sat here now waiting for them to get in touch.

I'm at a loss on what to do now to get this sorted. Can anyone help?

Thanks.

Apologies if this is in wrong place. My daughter had Sky Q installed just under a year ago and all was fine until a few days ago,my grandson was playing Xbox live (connected by Ethernet cable) when suddenly he could not connect to the game and we noticed it was the Broadband had gone off. I have rebooted the Q router, changed Ethernet cable(twice) but still the Xbox would not connect BUT it works using wifi connection.i decided to try to set my laptop up to the Q router but that will not connect either using Ethernet cables (but again works perfectly with wifi) when I try to connect using Ethernet cables is says No Access ( or something similar) and nowhere to connect i.e. not showing my daughters router, anyway the point is we cannot connect to Broadband using Ethernet cables but wifi works...is this a fault with the router and should we contact Sky about it ?this info is needed for an Xbox mad 12yr old so any help/advice really would be grateful.
