Working 3rd party router connection changed from VC-MUX to LLC

$

I'm using Asus DSL AC 68u with merlin and my switch from BT date was the beginning of June 2020,

From taking the information contained in the supplied Hub. it's been happily doing it's job in maintaining a solid ADSL connection for 26 day's,
7.6 on the down and .8 on the up, enough for our needs as it's been rock solid and reliable at that,

But today it then stopped working ??????

I've gone through everything only to fine I'm now on a local loop, not VC-MUX,
Fair enough, I've reset to get up and running only to now find I can't even get connection unless I'm pointing to sky's DNS,
Speed has also dropped to 5.5 down and .5 up,
But it's a little wobbly in comparison,

So I'm left unable to point to my choice of DNS,
is this normal ?? Is there any other options, I'm now in new territory having never had this before,

If you have any idea or questions please post a reply

Unsupported signal on one tv, judder on another

I have had an intermittent problem for over a year but just recently it's been unsolvable and can no longer watch sky on my Sony TV. I get unupported signal, check device output. I tried another tele and on that one (a Blaupunkt), I get severe judder and it is unwatchable. I have tried other Hdmi leads. I have been through tech support with sky and they told me to do a software update on both teles and tried to claim it wasn't a sky problem. I have done this but still doesn't work. I have tried changing the resolution as well but this also makes no difference. I am not very technical so need step by step advice please.

Sky Q Router + ASUS RT-N56U + IPv6

I’ve currently got the Sky router setup with WiFi disabled and my RT-N56U connected by Ethernet which runs the WiFi. I do this so I can do more things (Edit DNS, Static IPs, etc). I don’t have a modem to use the router standalone. My issue is that I can see IPv6 working on the Sky hub and I’ve enabled Native IPv6 on the ASUS, but when I run IPv6 tests online they say I don’t have an IPv6 address. My devices seem to get fd85 addresses which I think are internal? Just wondered if anyone had any advice? Many thanks

My Box appears to be developing a Fault since a switched my old Hitachi 720 tv for a 1080 Smart TV from Aldi.I usually put my box in standby at night, but recently when I boot it up,the green light comes on but the Sky TV HDMI is not recognised as the box appears to have crashed? When i remove the mains plug and leave it unplugged for 10 minutes, then plug back in,after a while the green light returns and I can get a picture on the TV.
I have done several EPG defrags of the hard drive, but as soon as I turn it off again, the problem recurs I am wondering if there is a problem with the hard drive.?I have anothe Sky box,its an earlier model that didnt have the Wifi installed in the box and has a wifi box attached externally by usb cable.I dont want to change the box over, unless i have to as I have some programmes recorded on it that I want to watch. But if I do need to change it is there any Tutorial I can read before hand for this procedure and resyncing the Viewing Card..Any help would be appreciated Michael

Additional router for solar batteries.

I have bought myself a battery system for my house that is charged by my solar panels. The battery controller has its own little Wi-fi router in it. The app that will tell me all the stats of my system needs to speak to my sky router to provide me the info on the app. I’ve set up everything that I can but it’s not working. I think the sky router has some sort of security code that I don’t know about or something else.
I don’t know much about these things so bear with me. Please assume that I know very little indeed.

Moving to Sky Q next week. Will I lose my Sky+ Box?

Hello all,

Not sure if this is the correct sub-board to post this on, so moderator please feel free to move it if required.

So I am getting an upgrade to Sky Q shortly, and I currently have Sky+ and I have had it for around 6.5 years. I have hundreds of recordings on this box and I do not want to lose them. I have done the following:

1. Removed the hard disk and attached it to my PC.
2. Used the Extract+ software to copy some of the drive's recordings to my PC.
3. I also tried the ExPVR software, as I wasn't happy with the way that Extract+ exported the files as .STR format. It took a long time to find a player that support this extension.

Both of the software applications are out-of-date and not performing as well as I imagined. Some of the recordings cannot be ripped at all (this is due to encryption I imagine) and some of the recordings are not properly copying and are exporting as 14+ hour clips when they are only 30 minutes, and thus the file sizes are excessive. In other words, it's just a massive pain in the backside, I'd much rather plug it back into the TV and just watch the shows that way.

Now my questions are:

1. Will the Sky engineer visiting my house to install Sky Q want to take my Sky+ box away? I was under the impression that I own the hardware, can I tell him that I want to keep it?
2. If I do keep the Sky+ box, is it possible to connect it up again to the TV when I want and access my recordings in the planner?

I don't really know how the whole thing works. Is it dependent on the subscription i.e. if I have Sky Q will it even work if I attach my old Sky+ box to access the old planner?

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks

Cancelling TV element of Sky package...

I have left it a little late to get a response from this Community, but thought I would give it a go...

I am intending to cancel the TV element of my Sky package - keeping Phone & Bb - tomorrow, which is 30 days before the current contract ends (standard notice period for Sky), for a number of reasons. My questions (which I will try to get answered by the CS Agent when I call tomorrow) are:

1. When I cancel the TV service, will I still have access to the Recorded & Downloaded programmes already on my Sky+HD 'box'?

2. Will I still be able to receive the terrestrial (BBC, ITV, Ch4, Ch5 & their respective HD) & 'Free-to-Air' TV channels through the Sky 'box'?
I have a 'digital' TV, so this is not too much of an issue as I can swap to the in-built tuner for these channels. TIA.

Sky VDSL with ZyXEL VMG3925-B10B - MER (IPoE)

I figured out that IPoE may be the way forward and found old ZyXEL VMG3925-B10B.

Here is my settings for IPoE [in brackets is selected option]:

#General

#Routing Feature

Vendor ID : option 61
IAID :
DUID :
option 125

#6RD

But option 61 has 2 choices IAID and DUID.

When I attempt to populate and save the fields I get the following errors:
DHCP Option 61 IAID must be 8 hexadecimal digits.
DHCP Option 61 DUID must be hexadecimal digits.

So can someone confirm what format should I use?

I have found interesting webpage explaining things bit more:
https://www.draytek.co.uk/support/gu...re-setup-guide

8 hexadeximal digits must be the password
but if I try to fill in the DUID with 7c4ca5123456@skydsl I get the error.

Does anyone know what format should the DUID be?

And what is the "option 125"?

I know it's not needed on VDSL, but I am curious what are the data in the string

mine was this:
2.04.1919.R|003|ER115|B23456789012347

2.04.1919.R| firmware version, I am now on 2.12.2653.R on the same device
003| ??
ER115| model
B23456789012347|serial number - on the sky box/packaging label the serial number is B2345678901234 without the "7" at the end, maybe a control digit ...

Sky hub and mesh network problems......

$

There is quite a lot about this on the internet and so it appears that sky may be a bit behind the times. Mesh networks are bcoming more and more popular, I tried one and it improved the internet in my home greatly. The problem is Sky is a bit of a block to perfect mesh because of it's archaic practice regarding its modem/router setup.
Put simply, it does not allow the hub to be set up in bridge mode so that the hub acts as the modem and the mesh system acts as the router. Yes, you can put the mesh into bridge mode and turn off the hub's wifi, but in doing so you lose most of the useful features of the mesh system. The deal situation is to use the mesh as the router and the hub as a modem. It follows that Sky could simply fix my problem by allowing bridge mode, they can give excuses but there is no really good reason they shouldn't.
A second solution would be to allow a third party moden and router setup, but again Sky are not really helpful here as it is not straight forward to just connect your own equipment. Sky did not origianlly allow this anyway but i have read that since earlier this year they do. However Sky are really unhelpful in giving the information you need to do it, I phoned them up and they didn't have a clue, Kept giving me the password to get onto the settings web interface, which i explained i knew but wasn't what i meant by how do i get the information to connect my own modem and router. They eventually said it couldn't be done, despite it saying on the forums it could.
Any way here i am, sorry for the rant, i'm not too happy with Sky. Like i said, ideally Sky would just let me use their hub and put it into bridge mode. Failing this does anyone know how i can use a different modem with my mesh system as the router?
I also have my old BT openreach modem which i got from sky before they made the hub work without one. Can i just plug this in and then add any router i want? I have tried it and all of the lights go green but i cannot get the mesh router to work, I read to put it in PPPoE mode but it asks for username and password, which the Sky person on the phone did not understand. If the openreach modem connects to the Sky network then i assume it is doing the correct handshake and i should be able to use any router, does anyone have any comments or advice?
Thank you for sticking with me if you have got this far.

Thanks

Engineer managed to connect Sky Q to my network without info

$

Just had Sky Q activated in new house after a house move. The Sky Q box is somehow connected to my home wifi network, without me telling him credentials... He also didn't have access to the router as was in another room where I was sat during the install so he didnt touch that. The only possible thing I could think of is that the router is always searching for a Q box and always allows it access to a network, but that would open a security hole.

Can anyone shed any light on this?

why do skysports do this?

Why do you ignorant ****ers continuoualy keep updating latest scores from other football matches being played simultanously?, wtf is the point of recording other matches when you scum ignoramuses, always reveal what is going to happen?, would you watch a movie if you knew the script and the conclusions?, how about a horse race, a sitcom, or anything fecking else?,,What's that you are mumbling?, no you wouldn't, really???, , so why do you think it's ok to continuously update score from other games?, i can't watch 2 matches at once and there is no fecking point watching a game where you already know the muther fe**ing conclusion, capiche?

You/We alraedy have sky news channel, and remotes already have other buttons, is it so hard to not forcibly reveal other scorelines so that us the customer are not forced to know them?, i mean why can't users switch to the sports news channel?, or have a button to reveal these scores.?? how hard is that seriously??.... and you do this also when you have a game of the day straight after a program, (pre covid) seriously what is the point of watching a full 90 min re-run of a game where i ALREADY know the conclusion?, any offers?

If this doesn't stop i will be creating a website to highlighght this ignorant policy both sky and BT sports have adopted, and if this is a war between you why is it us the customers have to be the ones that suffer?

pricks...

i'll probably get a warning or even ban for using language, and you know what?, i don't ***ing care

Sky Ultrafast

I've not noticed this posted anywhere, but I'm sure I must have just missed it as it seems fairly big news .. however, it sounds like Sky are finally about to start their (delayed) rollout of ultrafast:

https://www.ispreview.co.uk/index.ph...p-service.html

Unfortunately its currently a fairly small pilot and no-one seems to know what the criteria is for joining. I just tried ringing and spoke to a very friendly but fairly unknowledgable guy from a call centre abroad, who stated categorically there is no fttp pilot scheme going on. which seems unlikely judging by the comments made by others who have been given it.

Got an SR203, can no longer use ER110 as wireless access point

$

For the past few years I've been using an ER110 as my router, and have got a second one that I've been using as a wireless access point, via the Cat6 I've got running between floors.

A while back we got sent an SR203, I think as my wife called to cancel and was complaining about the wireless performance, but I never got round to plugging it in until now as I generally don't like messing with things once they're working. I thought I'd try it out today as the extra ethernet ports would be handy... and the wireless range is exactly the same, so I still need the secondary router for my IP cameras and doorbell. But it doesn't work now.

I've set it up exactly the same as I had before - both routers have different LAN IPs, DHCP is turned off on the secondary one, the WAN port on both is set to DSL only to avoid any WANoE confusion. I've tried wifi and ethernet using several devices, I've tried using a static IP, I've tried both of my ER110s, nothing works. Any ideas why? It's maddening. I also noticed that my PC was having trouble connecting via the old Sagem router I was using as a switch, so I don't think it's just the ER110s. But I've just bypassed that for now and haven't investigated any further.

One other thing I haven't tried is using the SR203 as the secondary router, but that somewhat defeats the purpose of this whole endeavour.

I've gone back to my old setup for now, and on an unrelated note - a while ago I noticed that the router stats on both show a small but slowly incrementing number of LAN collision packets. This seems to be something to do with the mesh networking, as it stops if I disconnect the ethernet and just let it run wirelessly. But I don't want this as I want it wired for Steam Link. Incidentally, if powerline is disabled and there's no ethernet, how are the routers discovering each other? It can't just be via Wifi as what's to stop them meshing with my neighbour's router? Are there any secret menus where I can turn meshing off, as I neither need nor want it? (don't have Sky Q or indeed any TV product)

Had the box about 2/3 years
Recently started to freeze up, which needs a complete reboot to get it working again. Now seems to be losing connectivity to my broadband. Is it likely that the box is coming to the end of its life and will sky replace it foc if faulty?
