Bewildered and frustrated

Hi
Had a new 2tb box fitted Thursday after freezing and Internet connection problems. All has been fine until now.

My home set up consists of an LG TV, Denon AVRX2300, X BOX and the Sky Q box. I have the HDMI cables from the sky box and the x box going into the denon and an HDMI cable going from the HDMI OUT 4K/HDCP2.2 (ARC) on the Denon to HDMI 2 ARC on the TV. So whenever I turn the TV on and the sky box on, the AVR also turns on. Everything has been working fine until this evening. I cannot for the life of me get Sky Q on my TV - all I am getting is the Denon logo on the screen. It just isn't recognising or picking up the signal from the sky Q box. Im certain it's not the sky box that is faulty - the kids mini boxes are working fine. Plus if I run the HDMI from the sky Q box directly to the TV bypassing the AVR, sky Q works fine. The only thing that happened today that might give a clue why this is now happening is that the TV done a software update but how or why this affected anything I don't know. I have pulled all the cables and and reinserted but still nothing. The x box works fine through the AVR. Does anyone have any suggestions please because I am tearing my hair out.

Dish on Tall Mast

I have lived in my house for 25 years now - it has a short garden and a wood beyond at the back. The wood has oak trees which have grown considerably over the years, the dish started off on the wall well below the roof line but has been raised twice to keep apace with the tree growth.

The dish is now on the TV aerial mast which is lashed to the chimney. It is pretty inaccessible and is as high as it can go without further development.

The trees have continued growing and I fear they are just at the point of obstructing the line of sight - I have started to experience blocky pixels and picture breakup on BBC One and Two.

Wondering what my options are?

Is it possible to mount a tall mast on the wall with the dish mounted on it?

Anyone in a similar situation and have resolved it?

My wifi is generally pants.......I sort of put up with it shrugging it off as the norm.....

Its about time i sorted it. Any obvious issues with the stats?

Business Broadband

Hi, First time posting,

Just wanted to ask if Sky do broadband for a small business, we are with TalkTalk at the moment, when they took over from Tiscalli, we stayed with them. But the price has gone up year after year and we are currently paying 27.00 just for the broadband, no phone calls etc.... and we only get 9 Mbps!! and are looking to get another provider, if Sky don't do it and recommendations would be helpful?

Sky Q Box - errors

Over the last 1-2 weeks.

Every recording does not have a thumbnail.

Every recording isn't stacked. So for example, every recording of say, Roswell, is seperate in the recordings

It's the same for eveything.

Tried rebooting the box, but same. Have a Sky Q TV main box. It occurs on this and all the minis I have (4).

What's going on?

Like a good number of other users I’m a bit confused by the latest update. Been out for a while but only just got it.
Amongst other oddities

In recording section. You have to scroll backwards to find the next one in a series, number of recordings that only relates to current series so not a true guide, the delete button may refer not to the last one you watched, strange gui with loads of blank blue above the first title.

The good thing is that under management removing deleted progs now recalculates space after each removal.

Any others find the recording section less easy or straightforward to navigate?

Apparently for Vodafone but will others be able to use it? At present we have Sky fibre to cabinet and copper to the house with max speed about 30mb.

Optimising Sky Q home network

I originally signed up to Sky Q on release some years ago, receiving the silver 2TB Q box, and 2 mini boxes. All went well and dispite a few hiccups things worked as expected and for an early adoption standpoint i was quite impressed and happy with the system. I knew that there were things still to be tweaked and improved and that software updates would solve this for the most part. The only issue i had was the internet occasionally "hanging" while trying to load web pages. This increased to point where i felt the need to get assistance.


I spoke with the technical team and found a very helpful guy who knew his stuff and with a piece of software monitoring the wifi signal on my mac we were able to resolve this issue. The problem had been with the Sky Q Hub and both mini boxes broadcasting their own signals which resulted in interferance within the home network. Some 40 minutes of a phonecall later we had changed setting on the Hub and boxes to resolve this issue and all was perfect.


18 months ago I left Sky to go to Virgin in the hope to save some money. long story short i hated it and came back to sky as soon as the 12 months were over. I'm now back and with new equipment and desperate to replicate the setup i had before, but i'm unable to remember exactly what we did.


Please can someone help me with this situation? Trying to contact Sky at the moment is impossible anyway and i need to improve my home connectivity.

I have had sky talk anytime extra on my account for more years than I care to remember. Now my family are all settled and we communicate on line, so anytime extra is unwanted.
How do I cancel it, there doesn't seem to be a way.

Sky Q Hub ER115 are there different versions?

Hi,

I've just got a 'new' Sky Q Hub on contract extension. Comparing both these seems almost identical (I haven't connected the 'new' one yet). The only difference I can make is the ending of the PCB number (you can make over the plastic ventilation mesh): old one being -247, new one -133. Anyone knows some details?

Moving house while in contract - broadband at new house not as fast

Hi,

I currently have Sky FTTC with no TV and only basic phone line. I get about 35Mb download speed.

I am moving house and the speed availability checker tells me that the new house can't have FTTC so it will have to be ADSL with a speed of around 10Mb.

My question is, if Sky tell me they can't provide the same broadband connection at my new house that I have at my current address can I cancel without penalty and get Virgin instead?

Can I use spare NowTV router to extend wifi network

I have a spare NowTV router which I presume is a skyQ router with slightly different firmware, in looks they are exactly the same bar the logo.

Is it possible to use this to extend my wifi network? I want to achieve better range into my garden.

Both the routers are either Sky Q Hub ER110 or ER115.
I will check them out later.

Having had a few power cuts recently and getting annoyed with the router dropping out all the time, I just watched a video with a guy using a 5V powerbank to power various routers, would this harm the router long term? or even work?, would be a lot cheaper than buying a UPS device which would be £50ish pounds as i have 2 power banks laying around doing nothing anyways

I am trying to get hold of someone at Sky, over problem with telephone line I have (and speed of my VDSL)
but every time I phone Sky expert on 03337 591 541 I am being told I have to do it on-line as Covid-19 ...........
and I am not in vulnerable group ...

I am as well at the end of the contract, and want to talk to them about a deal.

Is there any way to get hold of anyone at Sky?

How to record UHD on Sky Q after new upgrade?

My Sky Q hard drive failed 10 days or so ago and, although I managed to reset OK I obviously lost all my recorded programs and future recording. I set up those I could remember including this weekend's Spanish Grand Prix on F1 Sports Channel in UHD. Since then the update has happened. Sat down to watch the recording an hour after it should have started and there's nothing there which is frustrating enough. It's repeated at 5.30 but, when I try to record in UHD I can't see how to do so. Previously, I went in through the Sports menu on the Home page but now I can't see it anywhere. Am I missing something obvious please?

When I log into my online Sky account on my iPad Pro and click the link for Yahoo mail, I get a message "can't open page because too many redirects occurred'.
This problem occurs with both Safari and Firefox and I have been unable to find a solution.
This has only been happening for about the last week or so, my iPad is a 2020 Pro version with all software updates in place.
I have cleared all cookies and website data from my iPad, I then get one clean log in with either using Safari or Firefox then the problem returns.
Reading on the web that the problem can be caused by sites that use Google authentication services, not sure if Sky do!
For info: I realise that I could have my emails download to my iPad automatically, however I like to check for emails on my iPad, but deal with them on my iMac, running up and down stairs is also good exercise!
I have never come across this problem before, I am on my second iPad and have used Apple for the past 15-20 years. The same issue also effects my wife's older iPad pro and both our iPhones.
I had wondered if this was an Apple related issue but as I always use the Firefox as a standby browser as some websites find Apple Safari problematical, the problem as I said effects Firefox as well.
I posted this issue on the Sky user forum, had no luck in finding a solution.

I cannot 'speak' with Sky due to the Covid situation, wondered if anyone here is able to assist.

for 80/20 broadband only, no TV.

Sky Q Box: Broadband Connectivity Failing

Evening all

Really hoping someone might have the answer to something that’s really puzzling me and my internet provider at the moment- I just cannot get my Sky Q box to connect to my broadband for love not money.

Ive tried all of Sky’s diagnostics suggestions and have come
up with no success I’m afraid.

I have a Sky Q 1TB UHD box in a communal apartment block. Satellite working well and no issues with the TV. As it’s communal we run on an SCR signal rather than wideband.

My internet provider are ASK 4 Wireless, who seem to specialise in private residential accommodation and large student accommodation. We have to log into our Ask4 account and enter the MAC address of devices we want to enable. Every single device has worked perfectly bar SkyQ Box.

On both WiFi and Ethernet, the W box will say that we are connected to your router but you are not connected to the internet. This is the obstacle I have yet to overcome.

I have spoken with Ask4 on a couple of occasions and they say there is nothing they can see that would block the Q box connecting but have asked me to check if there are any alternative MAC addresses that I might be unaware of that we need to update. This was their response:


It may be worth contact sky to ensure the device can be used off of the SKY network and ensure the MAC addresses aren't being spoofed or that there aren't more than the ones you have already registered with us.”

Has anyone got any ideas as to how we can get this box connected?

Weve tried turning off the Q box and router and powering back up but we get the same situation each time. Is there anything I can play around with that you think would be worth trying?

EDIT: For the record, even the engineer in SkyQ installation couldn’t get it connected to my broadband :( so it’s never worked once yet.

Why am I randomly getting asked for the pin on recordings and downloads ? I mean it's 11pm and have no kids so why do I need a pin ,it's a pain in the ar$e as I use a harmony with no number keys ,and yes everything is turned off in the settings
